About Us ....

HistoryCooks! is for foodies who have an interest in history, too. We propose to be open for anything and everything from as far back as can be reasonably documented and intuited up to and including WWII (interesting rationing recipes...).

History Cooks! began as a discussion between two friends at an SCA event (An Tir's Summits' Coronet Tourney, Sep 2007) where there was a medieval buffet-style feast hosted by the Stromgard Culinary Guild to celebrate the elevation of someone to a Companion of the Pelican (Hi, Ula!). The two (Cody & Brenna) thought the guild idea was great as far as it went but wanted to cover even more ground history-wise (gee, over a millenium of cooking choices wasn't enough?). They got to talking about the various dishes and cooking styles of later eras as well as the SCA-covered periods and found other folks popping in and out of the conversation expressing interest, too. Thus was it begun....

Currently (Nov 2007), it's a small group but it is growing, drawing in people from other local re-enactment groups & local branches of national groups as well as non-re-enactors. Centered on the Portland OR / Vancouver WA area, we're a non-profit unincorporated pseudo-organisation proposing to have fun with progressive dinners, all-day cook-outs (or cook-ins depending on the weather), hosting event banquets (like the revel at Sport of Kings), and/or having a fundraising food booth (possibly at the Portland Pirate Festival), to name just a few ideas. We hope you have the time and interest to join us. Also, if you know of someone else who may be interested, please pass this site along. The more, the merrier!
